In 2022, SONI and EirGrid published an Operational Policy Roadmap out to 2030 setting out their targets for evolving key operational policies related to facilitating increased levels of renewable generation on the power system. These targets included increases in the System Non-Synchronous Penetration (SNSP) limit and reductions in the Minimum Number of Units (MNOU) requirements. This 2025 update to the Operational Policy Roadmap reflects the current state of implementation, new initiatives, challenges, updated policies and targets out to 2035. It outlines the context, drivers, timelines, milestones, actions, and stakeholder impacts across power system operational policy to achieve decarbonisation targets in the electricity sector.
